Biography / About

Dan Baczkowski (1994) is a composer and researcher based in Manchester, United Kingdom. He has experience in writing for all forms of large and chamber ensemble, and has a particular specialism in arranging works for different instrumentations. His music has been programmed in the UK and internationally, including multiple performances in both Norway and Germany. Highlights include a performance by Manger Musikklag brass band at Brasswind Festival in Bergen. In 2019 his music was featured on the Wind Ensemble and BASBWE Wind Conducting courses at the Sherborne Summer School of Music. Other commissions and collaborations include The Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland, and Brighouse & Rastrick brass band.

Dan holds a Masters in composition and musicology from Royal Northern College of Music, graduating in 2022 having studied with Adam Gorb and Paul Patterson. Dan is currently a PhD research student at RNCM supervised by Adam Gorb and Michelle Phillips. His research is concerned with listeners’ perception of time in music and ways for composers to manipulate this.

In addition to his work as a composer and researcher, Dan also has a keen interest in conducting. He has studied with various esteemed teachers including Jonathan Lo while at Leeds College of Music, and others such as Mark Heron, Alberto Roque, and Cynthia Johnston Turner.
