Description
The brass band version of this piece was commissioned by Leeds Central Band of The Salvation Army, and premiered at Leeds Central’s Harvest Festival 2019, conducted by the composer. This arrangement for wind orchestra was an entrant in the WASBE composition competition 2020.
Programme Note – This piece is based on the popular harvest hymn We Plough the Fields and Scatter, the title being derived from the words of the 2nd verse. While the original hymn’s lyrics describe many different aspects of creation, this piece more specifically explores the way light and colour change in the sky throughout the course of a day. In the first blocks of material one can hear morning and midday, then as the sound darkens and the sun sets towards Adagio we move into evening.
