Description

This piece is a companion to LED for solo piano (2013). The second half of this piece is the same as the whole of LED, however instead using reverse sounds.
Performance of this piece requires a piano sound (either acoustic or keyboard), outputting the sound to a looper, which must then be amplified for the audience. The looper to be used must have around 4 minutes (or 240 seconds) of looping time available, and the ability to play back the loop in reverse immediately after finishing recording. Some examples of looper pedals capable of this are the EHX 720, and TC Electronic Ditto X2 or X4.

Programme note – The piece is a musical palindrome in that it will sound almost identical in reverse. The sounds are inspired by the flashing, pulsating lights found on electric musical equipment such as mixing desks and effects units. The piece aims to evoke the sensation of being in a dark room with such lights as the only source of illumination.
