Description

Programme note –
A parasocial relationship is one usually experienced by members of an audience in their mediated encounters with certain performers in the mass media, for instance on television or film, or more recently with internet personalities like streamers. Regular viewers come to feel that they know familiar personas almost as friends. These relationships are usually completely one-sided, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other’s existence.

This piece frames this phenomenon as an unrequited romance. The sounds are often warm and lush, aiming to evoke the Golden Era of Hollywood. This builds towards a grand, extravant gesture. The ending however is tinged with a bittersweetness.
